On Monday, Ooyala, our digital partner, announced a new round of financing that will net the company $35 million in fresh capital. Bloomberg has more on the story, including a quote from Mitzi Reaugh, SVP of Strategy and Business Development here at Miramax, who spoke about our decision to partner with Ooyala.

“We liked their ability to support a multi-platform experience and a variety of models,” said Mitzi Reaugh, senior vice president of strategy and business development for Miramax, which offers a hundred films via Facebook. She said Ooyala stood out for being able to offer films as free promotions, video-on-demand purchases or for a higher fee for unlimited viewings, as well as for analytic tools to track what people are watching.

It’s been a busy few weeks for Ooyala, which earlier this month announced a new deal with Pac-12 Enterprises — a new Pac-12 media company that plans to launch a TV sports network this August. According to the Pac-12, subscribers to this network will be able to watch more than 800 live events on TV, the web, or any mobile devices.

Before closing the deal with Pac-12 Enterprises, Ooyala CEO Jay Fulcher presented a slide that displayed the names of some 60 employees who attended Pac-12 schools. That inspired us to conduct an internal poll here at Miramax, and as it turns out, a full 25% of our staff attended a Pac-12 school, as well. With that in mind, we thought it’d be interesting to see how many of our fans are Pac-12 alums, and which schools they hail from.
