Sales to Commence at Berlin Film Festival
LONDON, UK, January 27, 2011 – Miramax and Pathé International are teaming up on Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, a tale of hair-raising, spine-chilling horror from Producers Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Devil’s Backbone, and The Orphanage) and Mark Johnson (Chronicles of Narnia). One of the most eagerly anticipated horror films of 2011, the film stars Katie Holmes (Batman Begins, The Gift) and Guy Pearce (The King’s Speech, Memento, L.A. Confidential) and marks the feature directorial debut of acclaimed comic book illustrator Troy Nixey, following his acclaimed short Latchkey’s Lament.
When a little girl (Bailee Madison) is sent to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the old mansion they are renovating, she unwittingly unleashes malevolent creatures bent on destroying all of them.
Pathé International will handle the film’s distribution outside North America and will commence sales in Berlin.
Mike Lang, CEO of Miramax, said, “We are pleased to be working with the incredibly talented Guillermo del Toro and we look forward to partnering with Pathé on this exciting project. Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark continues the Miramax tradition of bringing the most original, ground-breaking films to audiences around the world.”
Francois Ivernel, Executive Vice-President of Pathe, added: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Miramax, Guillermo and the film-makers to bring what is undoubtedly one of 2011’s most eagerly awaited genre films to international audiences.”
