It seems like only yesterday that Alexa Vega was saving her parents from evil in Spy Kids. How times have changed. More than a decade after making her breakthrough as child heroine Carmen Cortez, the 23-year-old Vega is once again teaming up with Robert Rodriguez for his upcoming film Machete Kills, though she'll be playing a decidedly more grown-up role this time around. A few weeks ago, the actress tweeted a racy picture of herself as KillJoy, an assassin who works for Madame Desdemona, played by Sofia Vergara. Not surprisingly, the photo drew a torrent of comments and feedback, and has only heightened anticipation for the film, which is slated for release in 2013.
Also starring in Machete Kills are Vanessa Hudgens, Mel Gibson, and Jessica Alba, along with one pop icon of particular note -- Lady Gaga. Earlier today, Rodriguez confirmed that Gaga will indeed make her acting debut in his film, starring as La Chameléon. In a tweet posted this afternoon, Rodriguez gushed, "I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills , she kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown away!" The director went on to publish a poster alongside his tweet, giving fans a glimpse of Gaga's new character.
Gaga, for her part, seems understandably thrilled about her forthcoming debut. Not long after Rodriguez announced the news, she posted an exclamatory tweet of her own: "Yes its true, I will be making my debut as an actress ln the amazing MACHETE KILLS BY @RODRIGUEZ IM SO EXCITED!!! AH! Filming was insane."
Machete Kills is the sequel to Machete, which Rodriguez released in 2010. It was originally conceived as a fake movie trailer that ran before Grindhouse -- Rodriguez's 2009 collaboration with Quentin Tarantino -- but will now reportedly expand into its own trilogy.
