The New York Film Festival celebrates its 50th birthday this year, and in honor of the occasion, the Film Society of Lincoln Center has produced an eight-minute short film about the festival's earliest days. The video, released earlier this week, includes interviews with several directors and film luminaries, including Michael Moore, Noah Baumbach, and Martin Scorsese, who recounts his memories of a bygone era when people were still reluctant to regard movies as "art."

The New York Film Festival opened on September 28th and runs through October 14th.
