Much of Robert Rodriguez's filmography can be divided neatly along a single line. On one side sit violent, pulp-tinged films like Once Upon A Time In Mexico and From Dusk Till Dawn. On the other is a collection of decidedly more family-friendly fare, such as the Spy Kids series. Also included in this latter group is The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl -- a 2005 film inspired by Rodriguez's own children. In fact, Racer Rodriguez (who was just eight-years-old at the time) received a writing credit for coming up with the story, and even makes an appearance in the film, alongside siblings Rocket and Rebel.

Above, Rodriguez takes some time out to pose with two of his sources of inspiration.
