Every Friday, we feature a movie one of our staff has chosen as their favorite Miramax film, along with personal stories about what makes it special to them. Consider watching one over the weekend. Today’s pick is Bridget Jones’s Diary from Executive Assistant, Karla Barriga.
Bridget Jones is an adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice – but rather than a collected and witty Elizabeth Bennett, this character is clumsy, insecure, and painfully embarrassing at times. A 30-something “spinster” (as her mother would say), living in London with bad habits involving drinking, smoking, and overindulging. Her comical love life becomes ever complicated and entertaining with a love triangle between the modest but successful Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, and the dashing playboy Daniel Cleaver, played by Hugh Grant.
